There is a certain alchemical magic that comes from working with robots. By waving my hands, I can make machines seem alive.
Ilia Baranov is the engineering manager for research solutions at Clearpath Robotics in Canada, where the primary tasks is both enabling and preventing the autonomous robot revolution.
He is active within the Open Source Robotics community, helping maintain ROS packages; and is the creator of the popular ROS 101 blog series. Ilia holds 2 patent applications related to mobile communications and successfully licensed technology from a business venture.
He will often take the Swiss army knife approach to a problem, where the faster and most versatile solution is preferred to the perfect one. He graduated from the University of Waterloo with a degree in electrical engineering in 2013. Robots, robotics and automation have been lifelong interests for him. His hobbies are rock climbing, snowboarding, hacking and making things, and a few computer games.
